ASIC Bitmain Antminer Z9, Z9 Mini

29/11/2025

In 2018, Bitmain released a line of Equihash-based mining devices — the Antminer Z9 and its compact version, the Z9 Mini. These models were the first mass-produced ASICs for mining Zcash (ZEC) and other Equihash coins, effectively replacing GPU mining for ZEC thanks to their high efficiency.

Antminer Z9 and Z9 Mini made Zcash mining more accessible and profitable at the time. Today, they are mostly of interest as historical devices or budget options on the secondary market.

  • Z9 Mini — positioned as a budget-friendly choice for home miners. It was marketed as a “starter option,” affordable but quickly outdated due to its low hashrate. Hashrate: 10 kH/s, power consumption: 300W.
  • Z9 — the more powerful version. Hashrate: 42 kH/s, power consumption: 970W. More efficient and productive, it became popular among miners but was eventually surpassed by newer models like the Z11 and Z15, Z15 Pro.

Kryptex Pool is the top choice for mining Zcash (ZEC), offering full support for Bitmain Antminer ASICs, high efficiency, and stable profitability.

What Can You Mine with the Bitmain Antminer Z9, Z9 Mini

All Bitmain Antminer Z9 models are designed to mine coins that use the Equihash algorithm, such as Zcash (ZEC).

These ASICs are not compatible with other mining algorithms.

Bitmain Antminer Z9, Z9 Mini Profitability

At the time of writing, the profitability of the Bitmain Antminer Z9 ASICs varies from $0.5/day to $2.4/day, depending on the model, and excluding electricity costs.

We recommend to check the actual profitability in our mining calculator, where you can also calculate the profitability including your electricity costs.

Model Hashrate Consumption Profit w/o El. Price
Z9 42 kH/s (±10%) 970 Watt (±10%) ~ $2.4 / day

Bitmain Antminer Z9, Z9 Mini

  1. Prepare the Equipment:

    • Plug the Antminer Z9 into a power outlet.
    • Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the ASIC device.
  2. Power On the Device:

    • Turn on the miner. You’ll hear the fans begin to run, indicating the device is active.
  3. Find the Device's IP Address:

    • On a computer connected to the same network as the ASIC, download the Bitmain Antminer IP Reporter Tool.

    • Launch the tool and click the "Start" button.

    • Press and hold the "IP Report" button on the ASIC for a few seconds.

    • The tool will display the IP address of your device.

  4. Access the Management Interface:

    • Open a browser and enter the IP address you’ve located. This will direct you to the Antminer’s management interface.
    • Log in using the default credentials (typically username: root, password: root).
  5. Configure Pool Settings:

    • In the interface, navigate to the “Miner Configurations” → “General Settings” section.

    • Enter the pool information (pool address, wallet address, and worker name).

      Region URL Worker Password
      Global stratum+tcp://zec.kryptex.network:7042 ZEC_WALLET_ADDRESS.WORKER_NAME x or leave blank
      EU stratum+tcp://zec-eu.kryptex.network:7042 ZEC_WALLET_ADDRESS.WORKER_NAME x or leave blank
      US stratum+tcp://zec-us.kryptex.network:7042 ZEC_WALLET_ADDRESS.WORKER_NAME x or leave blank
